How to use it

Pick one task. Press start, and if the room around you is loud, tap a sound; it loops under the timer and a chime marks each phase change. Work until the chime, break until the next one. After four blocks the timer gives you a longer break, then the cycle starts again. The remaining time stays visible in the tab title.

The sounds come from the library of the Foyer app, and each has its own free page if you want it without the timer: they are listed below.

Questions

How does the pomodoro technique work?

You work in fixed blocks, classically 25 minutes, separated by 5-minute breaks, with a longer break after four blocks. The clock does the deciding: while it runs you only do the one task, and when it rings you actually stop. This timer follows that 25/5 pattern and rings a soft chime between phases.

Why add ambient sound to a pomodoro timer?

The timer protects your time; the sound protects your attention inside it. A steady bed of rain or brown noise masks conversations and hallway noise, so fewer things break the block you just committed to.

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes, and the remaining time shows in the tab title. Two caveats: phone browsers can suspend background tabs, and closing the tab resets the timer. For sound that survives the lock screen there is the Foyer app; the timer itself is web-only for now.
