What brown noise is
Brown noise is white noise with the treble rolled all the way off. Each octave carries less energy than the one below it, so what reaches your ear is a low, even rumble: closer to a plane cabin or a waterfall behind a wall than to static. The name comes from Brownian motion, the physics, not the colour.
Because its energy sits at the bottom of the spectrum, it is good at covering low-frequency intrusions like traffic, a building's ventilation, or a neighbour's bass. And since there is no hiss, most people can run it louder than white noise without getting tired of it.
Brown noise and focus
Thousands of people, many of them with ADHD, say brown noise quiets their head enough to get work done. The published research is thin, so nobody can promise you that effect. It costs nothing to check: put it on for one work block and see whether the room gets quieter inside.

What is the difference between brown, pink and white noise?
How the energy is spread. White noise is flat across all frequencies and sounds like hiss. Pink noise tilts toward the low end and sounds like even rainfall. Brown noise tilts further still and sounds like a distant rumble. Deeper generally reads as softer; which one helps you is personal.
Is it OK to play brown noise all day?
At a sensible volume, it is sound like any other. Keep it below the level of normal conversation and give your ears a break now and then. It should sit behind your thoughts, not compete with them.
Can I combine brown noise with other sounds?
