Common questions
What does Foyer need to run?
A Mac running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. Foyer is light on battery and memory, and works completely offline. The notch controls work on every Mac; a physical notch is not required.
What's free, and what does the unlock add?
Foyer is free to use: furnish any number of rooms, with up to three sounds per room. Decor is unlimited.
"Unlock Foyer" is a one-time purchase (€9.99) that removes the three-sound limit in every room. It is not a subscription, and it never expires.
I paid for the unlock but it shows as locked. How do I restore it?
Make sure you're signed into the App Store with the Apple Account you purchased with, then use Restore Purchases on Foyer's unlock screen. Purchases follow your Apple Account, so the unlock works on every Mac you sign into.
I don't hear anything.
Check that the room is playing (the notch island shows a pause icon while playing), that the room actually has sound pieces in it (decor is silent by design), and that your Mac's output device and volume are set as expected in System Settings → Sound.
How does the spatial audio work?
Every sound piece is placed in the room, and the audio engine positions it in space around you: pieces near the center play louder, pieces to the left and right pan accordingly. Move a piece and its sound moves with it.
Can I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are too: visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and request a refund for the unlock. Apple decides per their policy, usually within a day or two.
Where do the sounds come from?
All bundled sounds are CC0 (public domain) field recordings from Freesound, lightly edited for looping. Full credits are listed inside the app.
