What Endel does well
Endel's engine reacts to the time of day, your movement, even your heart rate, and it runs almost everywhere: iPhone, Android, Apple Watch, TV, web, Windows. You open it, pick Focus or Sleep, and it handles the rest. The zero-effort pitch is real, and the artist collaborations are genuinely interesting.
What it costs you
Two things. Money, on a recurring basis: subscription tiers on the App Store run up to $59.99 and beyond per year, and the one-time lifetime option is $124.99. And data: Endel requires an account, and its App Store privacy label lists identifiers used to track you, plus health, location and usage data linked to your identity, with third-party advertising among the stated purposes.
Foyer's label reads "Data Not Collected". There is no account to create. The app works entirely offline, and $9.99 buys the whole thing once, on Mac and iPhone together.

Two philosophies
Endel treats sound as a service that adapts to you. Foyer treats it as a room you furnish: you drag a fire to your left, rain behind the window, brown noise to the far edge, and the room stays exactly as you left it. If you want software to read your state and respond, Endel is the better product. If you want to set a scene once and trust it, that is Foyer.
